HVLS stands for high volume, low speed
An HVLS fan is a large-diameter ceiling fan, typically 8 to 24 feet across, designed to move a very high volume of air at a low rotational speed. Instead of a small blade spinning fast to create a narrow, choppy breeze, a huge blade turns slowly to move a massive, smooth column of air. That column drops to the floor and spreads outward in every direction, covering thousands of square feet.
Why slow is better
Fast fans create turbulence and noise, and their breeze fades within a few feet. A slow, wide column of air travels much farther and feels gentler and more natural.
