Common mounting structures
I-beam mounting
Steel I-beams are one of the most common and straightforward mounting points. The fan attaches with an I-beam clamp or bracket rated for the load, transferring weight and dynamic forces into the building steel. It is secure, repeatable, and avoids drilling into structural members.
Bar joist and purlin mounting
Many warehouses and metal buildings use bar joists or purlins. Mounting here often requires spanning between members or adding a support to distribute the load correctly, which your installer and a structural review will confirm.
Concrete and wood structures
For concrete decks or heavy timber, fans mount with appropriately rated anchors or brackets. The principle is the same: the structure must safely handle both the static weight and the operating forces of the fan.
Clearances that matter
- Blade-to-floor height: enough clearance for safety and proper airflow development.
- Blade-to-ceiling distance: room above the fan so it can draw air freely.
- Obstructions: keep clear of sprinkler heads, lighting, racking, and HVAC ducts.
