Question:

Do the fans runs in reverse?

Answer:

Humongous Fans were deliberately designed to run forward only. This is for two reasons.

First, airfoils lose 2/3 of their efficiency when run backwards, and what  air movement you do achieve will not properly redistribute the air within your facility.

Second, the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) allows the user to dial in exactly the right speed for every season. Use the fan at 5-10% max speed to push warm air down without a draft.

“The remarkable thing is the volume of air that is being moved. It’s like a wave in the ocean VS air. Thick and weighty, with momentum [...] These turned out exactly like I intended. Couldn’t have done it without your help.”

Question:

What is the maximum airspeed the fans can produce?

Answer:

Depending on the nature of the variables within your environment like the clearance to the floor and the size and shape of obstructions, the fans are capable of producing airspeeds up to 9-10mph. Most users operate the fans at 3-5mph during hot weather, and 0.5mph during cold weather.

Question:

Why doesn't this fan have winglets?

Answer:

Arguments in favor of the airflow benefits of winglets on a rotational blade system are questionable at best.

Winglets are valuable on fixed-blade systems to reduce turbulence. A rotating system, on the other hand, is constantly moving through its own wake, which presents a very different engineering challenge.

Second, as a minor fraction of the blade's surface area, they do not increase airflow proportionately to the increase in drag on the system.

Question:

How much can I expect to save on my heating and cooling?

Answer:

The global average is 1% per foot of ceiling height over 3 feet. For example: a plant with a 20' ceiling stands to save as much as 17% of their heating bill per year..

Productivity savings can be as high as 12 to 15% per year in locations of high summer heat.
